Without any further ado… Chelsea + Kelly. Their blog post is live today, and you should look at it if you love intentional weddings full of love, friends, style and garden party vibes.
There are a lot of words I could write about them. They have become friends, and they have this beautiful way of making you feel very loved and very special when you’re around them. It was no wonder everyone wanted to celebrate them so hard on their wedding day— they deserve it. ❤️
Also not to brag but these two also made it into @rocknrollbridemagazine so they’re basically celeb status. 💁‍♀️

Spring is happening in increments here in OKC. The buds are blooming, the pollen count is high… engagement photo season is almost here. :)
Honestly I love slowing down, spending time with my couples, and having a rad date night with them in some of their favorite places to hang out together. Sometimes it involves beer. Sometimes it involves pizza, arcade games, ice cream, rooftops, flower fields, or the spot where you first met. The thing I love about engagement sessions is that we can spend time together doing what’s so fun and meaningful to you. ✨

If money were no object… What would you do for your wedding? Where would you go? What you you see? 🧐
I think a lot of couples planning their wedding may experience “analysis paralysis” – there are SO many options, so many places, so many things you could do… That it starts to feel overwhelming. Quickly, trying to figure out a location might feel like a chore.

Here is my best tip for trying to “figure it out”.

Sit down with your partner and talk about what your absolute most perfect day anywhere in the world together would look like. Don’t think about a wedding, just think about what it would be like to spend a perfect day together, doing the things you love. Once you envision what your perfect day together looks like, work back from there.

Is your perfect day in another state? Look for vacation rentals to spend a weekend exploring a new place together.
Is your dream to pop champagne in Paris? Find a local wine bar and have a city elopement.
Dreaming of being in the desert? Visit the sand dunes or the salt flats for your portraits.

I don’t think there should be any limitations on what your wedding day looks like – you don’t need to follow a wedding “rule book” or fit into any “wedding day mold” – even if you can’t make it all the way to Paris – find ways to make it all about you. You will be SO happy you did.

There is something I wrote in my business journal

There is something I wrote in my business journal 4 years ago that I was reminded of today:

“creating space within yourself will help you create space for your clients to be themselves. To create love, connection, deep understanding, and opportunity.

Like I shared earlier today, to hold space for others to be themselves is something I wholeheartedly believe in and try to practice. Not only is it something I strive for in my business, but as an artist, as a partner, and as a friend.

What does this mean, really? I think what I wrote in my journal then had something to do with Heidegger: “In the midst of being, an open place occurs. There is a clearing, a lighting.”
My (condensed!!) interpretation of this concept here has always been that to be human, there is space within us (whether we choose to open this or not is one's own journey) where new understanding, ideas, and concepts can land and can be revealed by the "light" of growing as a person. (This is knowledge, insight, whatever you'd like to call it).

I loved this idea so much that it started to become not only something abstract I wrote about but sort of a guiding light as a creative person.

I keep this "clearing", open for ideas, connections, and opportunities that are currently unknown to me. New things may be revealed within that space as I grow, I practice, and I learn new things. This space might hold others so that they can grow. This space is.. well.. open for lack of a better word!

If you've read this far, thank you for coming to my mini-philosophy lesson. I tend to think v deeply about concepts like this and I love looking at philosophy through the lens of a creative business. I'd love to share more of my notebook ramblings sometime (there's a lot!!)

I'm so happy I get to do this job and create art for others while making them feel supported and welcome. ✨
